Wayne Gottstine’s album, Wyoming, is a story of survival, perseverance, and hope. With just his guitar and voice, he takes you on a ride exploring mortality and the human condition. In a world of AI and fakery, this album is as real as it gets.
“Trick or Treat/First of November” a multi-part song beginning with an instrumental that Gottstine wrote on Halloween after he was diagnosed with cancer for the second time. “‘First of November,’” Gottstine says, “describes the feelings of waiting for my big surgery where they removed my lung. None of this is mentioned, of course, but these are the feelings of waiting to see if you are going to live or die... I had decided to keep fighting and live.”
“Wyoming”—the title track from the album—is about when twothirds of Gottstine’s right lung was removed and he wanted to see if he could still sing. “It’s the most inspirational song I’ve ever written,” notes Gottstine.
